Samsung Kies is a free Samsung device to realize the communication between Windows and Mac. It is originated as an acronym for 'Key Intuitive Easy System', as for KIE.
However, quite a few users complaint of it about its connection issues. They said the Kies fail to recognize their phones. They tried again and again but not succeeded and wanted to give up and uninstall the application.
Samsung Kies Not Connecting
- Samsung Galaxy Note 8 owners may experience a problem when attempting to connect their device to Kies. Note 8 users will notice that when they connect the smartphone to the computer and syncing it with the Kies 3 software, it won’t work. The reason is that Samsung’s Kies 3 no longer supports the new Samsung smartphones.

#1. Kies Cannot Recognize Phones
Maybe sometimes you observe that you are successful in connecting your phone to the computer while Samsung Kies still cannot recognize the phone. Then, you need to try on these ways to handle the problem.
- Connect your phone to Samsung Kies once more.
- Disconnect the USB and insert it to a new port on the computer.
- Substitute USB hub or a docking station for the USB cable in connection.
- Try to update Samsung Kies to Kies 3 version via 'Information'>'Check for updates'.
- Restart Samsung Kies and reboot the computer and your phone.
- Ensure that the model of your phone is supported by Kies 3. Go to Samsung.com and double confirm.
If your phone maintains not detected, try on the following methods to solve this problem, as ways above are kind of pretty simple.
- Choose 'Troubleshoot connection error' on the homepage of Samsung Kies to diagnose the error at first. Then, Kies will solve this problem by initializing connection history, re-installing device driver and recovering various errors. After the fixing completion, try to connect your phone again.
- Re-install Samsung Kies if it is Kies 3 version. You can directly re-install it through 'Tool'>'Reinstall device driver' and then choose 'Reinstall' when the pop-up windows turn up. Also, try to connect your phone again after the re-installation.
Most users express their success in that phones are recognized by Kies on those 2 methods. If a failure occurs again, you are better to completely uninstall and remove Kies from your computer and re-install it.
#2. Kies Is stuck in “Connecting”
You can be also stuck in another circumstance that Kies fails to recognize your phone but tell you it is 'Connecting' now. Let's see how to cope with the connection problem in such a case.
Usually, it seems that there is not a USB driver installed on your computer so Kies cannot detect your phone. Therefore, you are supposed to install the driver.
Go to install along with this path: 'My Computer'> 'Disk(C:)'> 'Program Files (x86)'> 'Samsung'> 'Kies'> 'USB Driver' and finally right-click to launch SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe.
